Manufacture Defect but not covered

The fridge is a good fridge but the is a MAJOR problem the the led light. There are A LOT of people that have this model and other models with the same LED light problem. Videos with over 100,000 views on how to fix the blinking led light. Whirlpool will not cover it under a defect and to repair can cost over $125. Ice machine VERY loud when dispensing ice. Maybe check other manufactures before looking at Whirlpool poor coverage.

Terrible plastics throughout
mcboyrd
11/16/2019
We've had this fridge for only 3 years, normal use for a family of 4 and couldn't be more unhappy with the quality. In that time 3 of the shelves have broken completely, each in the same way where it appears the plastic has not been made to structurally take the pressure the glass puts on it when the shelf is loaded. The plastic on the drawers is equally fragile. Both of ours have snapped down the front. Lastly the plastic layer that covers the buttons for the water / ice are already splitting. Again it's been 3 years and we are a full house but I don't think we are excessively hard on it and a fridge should last much much longer. Do not buy this fridge or you may find yourself like me: debating whether to spend hundreds on new shelves that will probably break in another 3 or just buy a new fridge even though this one operates fine but is deemed worthless due these terrible components.

Got this fridge when we moved into our house. Within the first year the ice maker stopped working; that was replaced. Again the ice maker stopped working in year 2; it was replaced yet again. Lastly now the fridge is only 2 years and 5 months old (it was bought brand new) and now the freezer is going out completely, lights are not working, and ice maker again doesn't work. This is a piece of junk.

Poor quality appliance...
LMK19
8/16/2019
I've had this fridge for 3 years now...should have sent it back to the store. I thought this would be a good replacement for our Frigidaire side by side that was the same capacity. Not true. First of all, the fridge does not properly filter air, so everything tastes like last night's garlicky leftovers...especially ice and water, even though I change the water filters every 6 months when prompted. Crisper bins do not prevent produce from going bad...in fact these will hasten the process. I've never wasted so much fresh produce before owning this! The freezer constantly gets ice crystals because every time one of the kids gets water, the ice door opens. It doesn't dispense ice when getting water, just water like it should, but when the ice door opens it lets warm air into the freezer. When I called for a service tech, they explained to me this is the way the ice/water dispenser is designed to work. That makes no sense! Why would anyone want to essentially let warm air into the freezer to get some water? When getting ice, it shoots ice out so fast that cubes end up on the floor...that goes for crushed ice too.
Water...a large water glass or 16oz bottle will NOT fit to be filled. You have to hold them at an angle, and press the lever with your other hand. Then, water drips down the front and it streaks terribly, which goes to say that the stainless finish looks terrible. It must be cleaned CONSTANTLY. Oh, and only after having this for 3 years, the finish has small rust spots all over it. Partly from the water/ice that drips and the rest of the appliance...I don't know why there would be rust spots elsewhere. I only use Weiman Stainless Steel cleaner...just like I use on my other appliances with NO rust spots on those. Another defect...the doors do not close properly with the gaskets ill-fitting...so the compressor works extra hard to maintain proper temps. The wheels were never able to be properly leveled...a tech tried to adjust it, but he said it could not be done...then we were out of warranty for any replacement or additional repairs. The fact that it could not be properly leveled made the door seals even worse over time. Big defect...the shelves plastic edging is sharp! In attempts to remove the shelves for cleaning, I have cut my hand...more than once. The interior space was hard to organize because of the lack of additional shelves necessary...that goes for both refrigerator and freezer spaces. Additional shelves would have to be purchased from Whirlpool. I refuse to spend any more money on this. Finally, I've HAD it. I bought a different brand with a much higher price point and trashed this one.
To sum it up...POOR QUALITY, POOR FUNCTION, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT, WASTE OF MONEY
If you have a busy family like I do, you want something that keeps food fresh, is organized and will last...NOT this thing!

Bought a house and thought why not buy all Whirlpool Appliances (6 piece set to be exact). Little did I realize that this fridge would turn out to be a mass produced lemon. The lights lasted just long enough for the warranty to expire. After hours of google searching the model and reviews it became clear this is a extremely common issue with this model. It amazes me that customer service wouldn't be a little better on this given Whirlpool knows this is a repeat. Do yourself a favor DONT BUY THIS FRIDGE!

We bought this fridge about a year ago, and it's been amazing other that the lights. I've never bought a whirlpool product that I've been so disappointed in. Yes, it may be only because of the flickering led's ( only when they actually turn on. They only work 5% of the time) but after seeing all the reviews having similar problems, and cost to repair being rediculous. Most likely me, and my family will be switching away from whirlpool sadly.

Decent Fridge; Lazy Icemaker; Terrible Lights
JVAM
3/4/2019
I got this fridge brand new in December 2016. By 2017 I had to use the warranty to have someone check on the lights, which weren't working properly. Things were "fixed" but only for a short time until this happened again. Then I had to pay a few hundred $ to fix the problem. To this day, the lights flicker most of the time, and it doesn't behave like the new fridge it is. I think they should have replaced the unit, but now that I'm out of warranty there's nothing they can do. Apparently.
Also: ice maker takes its sweet time to make ice. Very frustrating when there's visitors, or even some weekends. Additionally, right below the water dispenser there's ALWAYS a puddle of remaining water, and the ice always gets stuck in the duct.
I give this 3 stars because of good design, decent space and the actual cooling has never faltered. I wish that I didn't have to think of replacing it in less than 3 years. Meh.

LED Light Conrtoller should have been a recall
thomaspickles
1/15/2019
The LED light controller on ALL of these fridges goes out after 1-2 years. Mine died around 15 months after purchase - I don't think anyone's has lasted more than 3 years. The lights will still work 1 out of 25 times opening the fridge, which is the really weird part.
It supposedly costs over $150 for parts and another $300 for labor to replace this. So if you're okay using a fridge without lights for years, it's a decent fridge.

Problem with lights and ice cubes fall everywhere

I have had this refrigerator for 4 years now. Not that long really. Only one person uses it so not a lot of wear and tear. For sometime the lights on both sides flicker constantly when the door is opened. Very annoying. I have been quoted ridiculous prices to repair this problem. Also the ice cubes fall out of the door after you finish getting a glass full. What a mess! I have a repairman scheduled to fix these things. Overall this refrigerator is okay.

LED lighting issues
In the dark

Have had refrigerator for about 33 months. All the LED lights are now dim. Looking on line and seeing this is a common problem , and the board to replace this is roughly $182. Seems like this should have been a recall issue judging by the widespread problems. This is out of warranty, and did not buy extended warranty. In our last home the Whirlpool refrigerator laster 17.5 years( and was still working when we left) our main reason for choosing all Whirlpool appliances in our new home!

Lasted 4.5 years...
lb103
12/4/2018
We need a new refrigerator. As I am looking for one, I searched my order history from home depot and found that this was the one we purchased in July 2014. So it has lasted only 4.5 years! During that time, we had it serviced during the one year warrenty period, but other than that, it never makes enough ice, the ice shoots out and goes all over the floor, the plastic door buckets have broken and we have had to super glue them back together. Now we have to look for a new refrigerator as it has started turning off by itself and blowing a curcuit. My husband said a wire must have come loose to cause this. It has not turned off about 7 times and one time was over night and when we woke up everything was warm inside (not good for the frozen stuff especially!). I was very surprised to see this only lasted 4.5 years! I sortof expect a refrigerator to last 8-10 years. I can deal with the other small problems, but the part now where it blows a fuse spontaneously is not doable. Not even 5 years out of a $1000 refrigerator! Very unhappy.

Good cooling but has some issues
ody_2008
12/4/2018
We bought Whirlpool WRS325FDAM in late 2013. While cooling is good but ice dispenser had problems - cubes would get stuck in the door of ice dispenser and fall out a few minutes later posing a slip hazard. The third technician finally fixed it by eliminating ice dispenser door's damping mechanism so now the door closes quickly with more noise but ice cubes don't get stuck in it to fall out later.
Internal lights are another issue, fridge and freezer started acting intermittently a couple of years back and now rarely turn on. The LED light controller costs more than $150 - LEDs are supposed to last thousands of hours but poorly designed controller board or sub-par components mean that I need to spend this amount to fix the lights and this does not even include technician's labor. I wish the unit had old incandescent bulbs that would have cost a few dollars, old technology is better than poorly designed new technology.

Wasted space!
J4321
11/27/2018
While pretty on the outside, the basic functionality of this refrigerator is lacking, and the quality of materials used to create this refrigerator are poor. We have owned other Whirlpool refrigerators in the past and had none of these problems. In this model, the shelves are not flush with the side and have a wide bevel going all the way around each shelf in the fridge, which wastes at least a square foot of space on every shelf because anything you set on the shelf must be set and inch and a half from the side or it will tip over. This means that the fridge loses at least 5 cubic feet of storage and the overall amount of stuff that we are able to put into it is minimal. We are a family of four and we are constantly playing Tetris in the fridge and I have learned to live with the disfunction (but I'm pretty ticked off about it!). Not only that but the shelves are of cheap plastic quality and we already have cracks in the drawers and shelves from normal use.
The shelves in the freezer are poor wire quality, not firmly attached and frequently tip over and drop everything. The experience of working with a refrigerator (that we use because I cook a lot) with such obvious construction flaws is aggravating at best. If you are only looking for a pretty refrigerator and something in which you may store eggs and wine, this will probably work beautifully for you. If you have a family and actually need the space and quality you hope to get from Whirlpool, I would encourage you to look much more closely!

Widespread problem with lights
lconn
11/9/2018
Have had fridge for less than 14 months. Freezer light went out and fridge side lights are now dim. These are LED lights rated to last 1000's of hrs. There's no reason they should go out this early. Contacted Whirlpool and there's nothing they can do to help.
The fridge itself is working great. Keeps foods at temp, water and ice maker working properly.
Service is lacking and price to replace lights is unreasonable. My old fridge I had to replace a bulb for $3 and the bulb lasted years. These new fridges have an LED "module" that is $148 to replace and having problems with them under 2yrs of use. That is unacceptable. This seems to be a widespread problem and Whirlpool has not recalled this part.

Loud, water leaks down the front, warm water
THogue
9/26/2018
Purchased as part of a kitchen suite through Costco. Our least favorite part of all of the appliances is by far this fridge. Yes our food is cool and our freezer stays frozen, but from there on out it sucks. The compressor is super loud and drones on and on when its running. The water dispenser is in the very front edge of the door and when you get that last delayed drop of water from it after you pull your cup out, it runs down the front of the door. It seems like only about the first 6oz of water from the dispenser is cold, then it is room temperature. The physical opening of the water and ice dispenser in the front of the door is on the smaller side, and due to the design of the water and ice levers, if you are not super careful with a large glass when getting ice you hit the water lever and squirt water everywhere. We knew the shelves were not adjustable when purchased and they work ok where placed. Overall dissapointed. One of the first design requirements for a fridge with a water dispenser should be that it doesnt drip water down the front of the door...

The unit looks great on the outside. It keeps our food cold as it should. However the ice and water dispenser is very poorly designed. The water dispenser is in front of the ice dispenser as opposed to being side by side. This results in constantly having water drip marks running down the front of the freezer door. Also when inserting the glass to get ice it is very easy to accidentally bump the water dispenser and make a mess. This fridge does not have leveling legs. Since the unit is on rollers when we pull the door open the whole fridge rolls forward. I had to put shims in front of the rollers to prevent it from moving. This fridge is loud. When the compressor turns on the condenser coil underneath the unit vibrates and creates quite an annoying noise. The other design flaw is that the shelves are not adjustable which limits the storage.

I bought this refrigerator February 2018. The drawers cracked, the door shelves cracked away from the door. The refrigerator is leaking near the filter. I replaced the filter and it is still leaking. Water is not cold from the dispenser. Ice gets stuck in the ice maker, causing frost buildup, then when ice melts the water in the tray over flows to the floor along with the melted ice :(

The water being dispensed will not get cold. At first, I assumed it was a temperature setting issue, however it still is not cold after I adjusted the temperature to the lowest settings. So strange and frustrating. I guess it's just something I will have to live with, unless it is perhaps a faulty component/issue that needs repaired??

We have had this refrigerator for about 8 months. It is the noisiest refrigerator we've ever had. Just recently we've experienced pieces of ice getting stuck; eventually it melts and drips out, but while stuck it allows air to get into the freezer and frost builds up. Also, we've learned that there is no water filter bypass plug available for this model so do NOT buy this refrigerator if you have reverse osmosis that you plan to connect to your refrigerator. Not the quality we expect from Whirlpool!

LED Lights quit working after 1 year
Lynn30062
7/31/2018
After owning our refrigerator for approximately one year the LED lights quit working or "flicker" as other reviewers have commented. The only way to get the lights to turn on is to leave both doors open for at least a minute or so, then close both doors, and when you re-open the doors again, both lights will work. But once you close the doors again, if you do not go back to either the refrigerator or freezer every minute or so then the lights quit working again or flicker.

We have been using this refrigerator for 10 months and it is working great. Capacity is good, we have plenty of room for all our groceries. I would recommend this refrigerator.
