Professional delivery and installation is available for every product we sell. We would be happy to coordinate delivery and installation for you.

Extended warranties are usually very inexpensive and can save you thousands in the future. Some can even cover extra costs that result, such as cost of food that spoils when your fridge dies. It's simple and inexpensive to purchase extended warranties and one of the smartest ways to protect your investment.

Appliances can be large, heavy and expensive. You probably don't have the special tools or expertise needed to fix them in a crisis. If you can spare a few thousand dollars without batting an eyelash for new appliances should they break tomorrow, don't buy a warranty. But if you're like most of us, protect yourself by purchasing inexpensive extended warranties when you buy a new product and save yourself big money in the long run.

Door Lock Failure and Sparks

Dirt-Fisher 10/20/2019

Purchase new 3 years ago. Worked fine until two weeks ago. The door open censer failure notice started intermittently. Now today, the unit worked, when to warm up second item and nothing. Door failure censer came back. I pushed on the upper switch, this had corrected the problem in the past, this time there was a spark and the unit went dead. The house circuit braker was tripped, reset and the microwave is still dead. Suspect a fuse. It is disapointing that a 3 year old microwave has failed. As a company Whirlpool needs to step up and take care of their customers. Asking for emails, facebook contact, or twitter is no going to correct this obviouse design flaw. This same model has a recall for fire, and there were less than 10 fires. Now this model has door issues, 70 plus 1 star reviews and no recall. Please, come fix my unit.

Unreliable - Broken in less than 2 years

BobFV 10/4/2019

We loved the features of this microwave and bought it at the recommendation of an appliance repair man. Unfortunately, it did not live up to its recommendation. After a little over a year it would only start intermittently and then stopped altogether. We called a repairman and he found faulty door sensors. He replaced them and it works fine, but this seems to be a known issue. It has cheap little sensors that make the microwave useless when they fail, and they failed after only a little over a year of service. I would avoid this model due to the cheap and unreliable door sensor components. It's not a cheap unit, Whirlpool should use better components to ensure better reliability.

Started having issues within 2 years

KMind 9/14/2019

This microwave was installed by our builder. A sensor that indicates the door being open started to malfunction within 2 years. I called about it once through our warranty company but was told it was only covered for 1 year. At least if I let it sit open it would eventually work again. However, now it will not work at all so I'll have to figure out how to replace the part. It seems to be a reoccurring issue with this model. Do not buy.

Poor design: Waste of money

Agent656 7/23/2019

Microwave and other kitchen appliances came with home we purchased. This unit is subpar and, judging from other reviews, a common problem with the door closed microswitch circuitry: message displayed indicating door not recognized as shut when it is. I read through other reviews and noticed a common theme besides the complaint; Whirlpool provides a form-letter response as follows: "Hey [fill-in your own nickname here], we value your time and would like to look into the concerns with your Microwave. Please reach out to us directly at 1-800-253-1301, via Facebook https://www.facebook.com/whirlpoolusa or Twitter @WhirlpoolCare. We're looking forward to hearing from you." Clearly no intention of providing useful assistance nor providing solutions to an obvious problem with their product.

So disappointing!

Laura A 5/9/2019

We were very excited to get this microwave which had many of the advanced features that we had been looking for. It has been nothing but disappointment. The under unit light kept going out, so we finally stopped replacing it. The unit will not recognize when the door has been opened/closed, so we constantly would get messages to open the unit to use it. Of course, when we did this, the unit would reset the clock and everything. Now....it's just dead. The interior light is working, but the electrical panel is dead. So much for putting our trust in Whirlpool.

Died in less than 3 years

Why Whirpool 4/23/2019

This microwave came with the house when we bought it on August 2016. The following year, I emailed the builder to let them know of the door latch issue. Last week, the microwave stopped heating food and a technician came in today to let me know that he has to replace the magnetron. The part and labor is the same cost as getting a brand new one. I paid $119.08 for a trip charge because the warranty expired just last year. It hasn't even been 3 years yet! I'm very frustrated as ALL my kitchen appliances are from Whirlpool and I'm afraid my other appliances are going to break too. I don't understand why this product is not on recall yet! Please Whirlpool do something about this ongoing issue!

Door Issue

JimSanJose 4/19/2019

I replaced both of the microswitches on the door which means there is a controller problem with this unit. For 2-years this has been failing to register the door closed and it finally stopped working all together this morning (interior light on, pressing the door in makes a fan noise but the unit won't work). I called the 800 number and there is no recall program or consideration for this garbage product. This will be my last Whirlpool appliance.

Same problem as everyone else, DO SOMETHING!!!

BJ Designs 3/7/2019

After 18 months of use, this microwave started exhibiting the door latch issue that everyone else reviewing on here has had issues with. It has completely quit working now and I'm without a microwave. For an upper end, expensive appliance $400 +, this Whirlpool is not up to standards. There is a serious issue with this unit that Whirlpool needs to step up and accept responsibility for. STAND BY YOUR PRODUCTS AND CUSTOMERS PLEASE!!! I look forward to your response.

SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS PREVIOUS REVIEWERS

alshek13 2/14/2019

Don't you think after so many reviewers have written in with the SAME EXACT complaint that there would be a recall on this product? I, like previous reviewers, have the WMH73521CS-1 model that was manufactured in July 2014. About a month ago, I started dealing with the same problem. You will open the door to get your food/drink out of the microwave and it either will not register the door opening or not register the door closing. Once you open and close it several times it will usually clear the message and allow you to use the microwave again, however, I know from reading the other reviews, it's only a matter of time before the whole microwave stops working. Something needs to be done or I will never purchase another Whirlpool product. I've had better microwaves that cost under $50 and yet we're all dealing with the SAME issue on a $400+ microwave. I think you can imagine why this wouldn't sit well with homeowners.

Add us to the list of unsatisfied customers!

Davnpat 1/19/2019

Please add us to the list of unsatisfied customers who purchased a Whirlpool #WMH73521CS-5 microwave. This microwave was purchased through Lowes Home Centers LLC on 2/4/17. It's serial number is #TR 6 27 30010, it was manufactured in China during July 2016, and we have the original receipt of purchase. Initially, we found the microwave to be a good product. Unfortunately, our "door latch" problems started to occur six months ago, when the "open and close door" message began to periodically appear. The problem worsened though, and started to occur several times a week. Next, the microwave stopped working completely – it was found that one of the 20 Amp Bussman fuses had blown – once the fuse was replaced, functions returned but we still had the door message problem. The microwave functioned for a while longer, but basically became unusable the beginning of December. Three new door switches (#W10727360, #W10269458, and #W10211974) were ordered through our appliance repair company – two of the old switches fell apart during the removal/replacement process. The microwave worked briefly after that point, but then blew out a second/different 20 Amp fuse in a top compartment of the microwave. Unfortunately, this happened a few days before Christmas – we borrowed a small countertop microwave to use in the meantime and we made it through Christmas dinner with no problems. Our Whirlpool microwave sat unused. Our Whirlpool microwave oven has now been uninstalled and set aside – it is sitting in our laundry room, waiting for disposal. We have installed a new microwave (of another brand) in place of same. At this point, we did not want to spend any more money on this unit. This is now the second time that we've experienced major problems with an appliance from the "Whirlpool/KitchenAid" family, and we have lost trust in this family of brands. We have seen that there have been numerous complaints posted about this microwave oven and we have noticed your response to those complaints. We are curious about your response to our problem . . . guess that time will tell.

Sad State of Affairs

Scarlett01 1/15/2019

We bought a vacation home that was 4 years old but the prior owners only were there two or 3 months a year. We have been there for a month since we bought 10 months ago.....That is background to show how lightly used this unit has been. Now the issue. just like everyone else, we started getting door open messages and then it blew the breaker in the HOUSE!! Something seriously wrong here. Repairman said even after he unplugged the unit, he could hear something running. I am VERY, VERY dis-satisfied and will be looking to replace with a more reliable brand.

Door issue is obviously a problem

ziggy18 11/28/2018

We bought a new town home in July of 2016. This microwave came with the home. The microwave worked good for roughly the first two years. Then we started to notice the same problems as others have stated. Every once in a while it would act as though the door was not closed when it was closed and would beep and prompt you to close the door. On other occasions when the door was closed it would act as though the door was open and would prompt you to close the door. Because the microwave thought the door was open it would therefore not turn on. All of these issues would happen once in a while. However, last week the microwave decided to go completely belly up and has stopped working completely with these same issues. I called customer service and the person I spoke to said there were no recalls or documentation pertaining to the issues we were experiencing. She said Whirlpool would pay for parts however we would be responsible for the cost of troubleshooting and repair. If this were a 10 or 15 year old microwave with no other data points of this occurring then I could understand this. But whirlpool clearly has issues with this model based off these other reviews and this is what disturbs me. I should note the lady I spoke to was helpful and professional and probably has her hands tied as to what she can offer and as such I didn't have a complaint with her. But the issues with this microwave seriously need to be addressed.

Whirlpool Microwave Problems!

rod1128 11/23/2018

I bought this microwave online at Lowes.com on May 2017. Worked great for about 1 year and 2 months. Now the door want close correctly and the surface light blew up and damaged the on/off control for the lamp. The lamp will not turn off, stays on all the time, which causes the light to get very hot and dangerous.I have removed the bulb and tried to replace it with a LED appliance bulb, which just flashes all the time. I have contacted Lowes and they said the appliance warranty is only good for a year.Doing a google search on trying to get this repaired, I noticed that there was a recall on this model back in 2016.Now you can't find this model for sale anywhere in the country. Whirlpool can you please help me with this issue?

Stopped working properly within first year of use.

Anonymous 11/19/2018

Whirlpool microwave, model #WMH73521CS-1 manufactured in 5/2014 was included with my new condo that I moved into on 9/2015. Initially it worked fine and all I ever used it for was to reheat food, never going beyond 4 minutes at the default power settings. However, within the first year of use, the microwave stopped working properly. When the door was closed after I was done microwaving, the indicator would still beep, indicating that I had either not opened the door or not closed the door. A few months later, the light would not come on when I opened the door and the microwave would tell me that I had to close the door even when the door was closed. It would not start until I reopened and reclosed the door several times. Now the microwave has stopped working altogether, except for the electronic controls. So while the keys when pressed would display, hitting start does absolutely nothing. I haven't had the opportunity to shop for a new microwave in months and have essentially used this one as a storage cabinet. Yesterday when I opened the door to put something away, the light magically came back on after months of being off. When I closed the door and then reopened it to investigate, the light stayed off again. Just very frustrating. I've had cheaper microwaves that cost only $50 and have gone through heavy use in my office and are still working after more than 5 years. It's disappointing when a product that costs 10 times as much and is supposedly manufactured by a very recognized name brand can't be counted on to live up to it's name or price tag.

Less than 2 yrs ol

Chris.amy0804 10/28/2018

Purchased this microwave feb2017 while having a new house built, moved in March 1st. It is just me and my wife no kids using this, she uses it to heat up oatmeal 5 days a week and occasionally I heat up a cpl pieces of pizza. Went to heat my pizza up this morning and it didn't heat anything up. I thought hmm. Well I put another min on to cook, nothing! Open door looked around it beeped at me and I closed door. When I looked screen it's blank! No power or display. I go check the breaker and it's tripped. So I unplug microwave and retrip breaker , go and plug it back in and nothing! So it's sunday my only day off each week and I can't call whirlpool!maybe it's just a fuse,if it's not I'm really upset and think they should do something about it being it's only 18 months old and very light use. If not I or anybody I know will never own another whirlpool appliance again. Just think it's funny wife called her mom and told her and she said we have had the same microwave for almost 40 yrs and still works great, and raised 3 freaking kids in them yrs I might add! I will let everyone know what I find out tomorrow while I'm on my lunch break calling whirlpool,!

Door Switch Problems

nate38 10/14/2018

I bough this microwave less than 2 years ago and during these years at various times I received the open/close door error. This is a known problem with Whirlpool Models. Now the microwave does not work and the switch needs to be replaces. The door switch is made very poorly and affects the performance of this microwave. Save yourself the headache and do not purchase it and save you money to purchase from a more reliable manufacture.

Poor product as well as poor promised.I don't recomment this brand any more. If poduct magnetron fail, warrent is to replace it according to our own manual.

Nessy123 8/28/2018

I have only owned this microwave for about a year and a half but it's already completely broken down after the dreaded open/close door issue. This issue started a month ago and it would work intermittently before it completely died. I'm not sure if it's worth trying to repair because appliance repair contractors already charge a trip fee just to come out and diagnose the issue. Any advice?

It was a cool looking microwave while it lasted...

RagnarLodbrok29 8/27/2018

The model WMH73521 that the builder installed in the house when we bought it three years ago just died. Idk the term, but it's the device that emits the radio waves that cooks your food. Considering that we also had a issue with the slide-in Whirlpool Range's control pane melting the first time we used the broiler, we elected to forgo the >$400 cost to repair the microwave and go with another brand.

Dreaded DOOR issue!!!

Felecia 8/22/2018

We've had this for about 15 months and now it's telling us to "close the door"! We've tried everything! Don't waste your money on this one. It has great features but they do you no good if it won't operate. We paid the extra money for a nice machine but it didn't pay off.

Another user with door issue

lurgid 8/14/2018

Can't believe there's not been a recall for this. I, too, have gotten the dreaded door issue, after owning it for 17 months. (Will look into my CC extended warranty benefits, if I don't get anywhere with Whirlpool.) I love the features and the fit and finish of this microwave, but it's unacceptable that it malfunctions so early into it's lifecycle.

Door Problems

Luna2018 8/13/2018

Add me to the list of door problems with this microwave. When I close the microwave door and try to use it, the microwave will not start. After a couple tries of closing the door, the microwave will start working. This has been going on for a while. Now the door will not close at all and I cannot use the microwave at this point. I just got off the phone with Whirlpool and it is not under warranty. I'm not willing to put money into this microwave to have it repaired.

Door message

Heather1182 7/9/2018

I bought this microwave in Sept 2016 and while cooking dinner tonight the open/close door message came on and the microwave will not work. We purchased this microwave because all our appliances were Whirlpool and we'd always had good luck with the brand but this microwave didn't even last 2 years.

Light Button Isn't working

ORJEWELL76 6/25/2018

I purchased my microwave (model WMH73521CS) in March 2017. I loved it from day one even though I had to learn how to use it due to all the features it provided. The light bulb for the light over the range however, kept working lose. A couple weeks ago, I went to turn on the light and nothing. I checked the bulb and it had come apart. I made sure the switch was off and my dad went to change it but the bulb with wires still attached to the socket fell and caused a surge which should not have happened with the button off. We replaced the bulb but now I must unplug my microwave because I cannot turn the light on or off. Now it tells me to open/close door before it will start running. I did not purchase the extended warranty because of financial issues when I had to purchase the microwave. Now I'm not sure what to do with it.

Door open / Close message

JasonG 5/30/2018

This unit replaced the identical unit that lasted 2 years. The replacement has now lasted 13 months and has the EXACT same issue. Tells you to open / close the door to start. Based on reviews, this is a common problem. BUYER BEWARE!!

"Open/Close Door" Message

jjshing 5/28/2018

This model came with the house I bought. Based on the label on the inside, it was manufactured in 2014. After about 1 month in the house, it started giving me the "Open/Close Door" message and would not work. Frustrated, I would leave it alone and it would magically start working again. I've now been in the house for 3 months, and this has happened about 6 times. I'm pretty fed up with this, and I cannot recommend this product to anyone. I think this is a wonderful microwave when it works, but utter lack of reliability destroys all the good parts for me.

Faulty door now it will not heat.

David J. 5/28/2018

Bought this unit along with a refrigerator, range and dishwasher. The MW started acting up last fall. I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get the door to work. This happened on several occasions. Now it just quit. Ser# TR60411671

Faulty Door

Unhappycust 5/19/2018

Add me to the growing list of customers experiencing a door malfunction. Unit is less than two years old. Works intermittently and is extremely frustrating. I am very disappointed in the quality of this Whirlpool product. The electronics for the microwave should not be at the bottom where all the moisture and grease is entering the hood vent. I have considerable condensation when cooking heavily. Guess I'll go with a real hood.

looks like door issue.

SB_SB 5/19/2018

I have multiple whirlpool appliance, and I did replace my old whirpool microwave with this one. As others have suggested, this is a bad model. Over the last year, often it will stop working, and then you will close and open the door multiple times, and then it will start working. This Last time, it did not work for over 2 days, and now suddenly it started working again. if somebody has already solved the problem, can you please post the youtube video or instructions, as I am not willing to pay 200+ for some person to come and check the problem, and then give me another bill for repairing it. Previously I had problem with Washer, but it was solved and we did not had any problem, after that. But now the microwave too. I feel quality of whirlpool products are going bad.

Door broken, again

SaraMN 5/5/2018

Like others have said the door mechanism and sensor malfunction. We called Whirlpool after only having this microwave a year and the issue had to be fixed by an appliance repair man who replaced the sensor. Fast forward another year and the new sensor/door stopped working again. Terrible terrible. Do not buy this.

Faulty Door

JamesN5 4/27/2018

We bought this microwave because we have had a great experience with Whirlpool products. This microwave replaced our old Whirlpool microwave that we had for 10 years. We purchased it just over a year ago and the last few months began having problems with it. After reading the reviews I see that it is not just us having an issue with the door. It is slowly getting worse and sounds like we will need to have it repaired. I expected to have this way longer than a year before having to have it repaired at my expense. Not happy at all with this product.

Faulty Door Mechanism

akpond4 4/20/2018

We bought all of our Whirlpool appliances through Pulte when we built our home. Overall, the appliances have been great. Except our Whirlpool microwave. After reading the reviews I can see others have had a similar issue with a faulty Door Mechanism. We have had our microwave for two years and we started having issues with the open/close door error message began at about 18 months. We tried to power through the issue by opening and closing the door over and over and seeing if we could jiggle the latch mechanism. However, we the latch no longer works and the sensor will not register that the door is close. Therefore, we cannot use the microwave at all. We will be calling a repairman but I am sure it will cost at least as much as replacing the whole microwave anyway. Disappointed in the fact this is a common issue and now working on next steps to get it corrected. W

Faulty Door Sensor Mechanism!

Fefegold 4/10/2018

Well, I purchased this microwave as a "splurge" item for my renovated kitchen. I was seeking a combination of aesthetics and feature functionality, which led me to pay more money than I've ever spent on a microwave. Needless to say, I trusted the whirlpool brand for its reliable products overall, which I expect most people would. Unfortunately, that was a big mistake because the microwave started displaying an "open/close door" error message about 18 months in, which causes the microwave to be inoperable. At first, we could get the microwave to work by repeatedly opening and closing the door, or fiddling with the door latch, which sucked, but at least I could heat food. However, over time that method no longer worked and now the microwave is completely useless. A repair call was going to cost $249 just to diagnose and pay for labor, in addition to the actual repair. Um, no thanks. Then, YouTube thankfully had videos for fixing the issue myself, which I'll attempt next. Question is...why in the world do I have to become a repair person for a higher-end whirlpool microwave, when the cheaper microwave I previously had worked just fine??? Seems like this issue is impacting many people with this particular model of microwave and could have been an easy quality control matter for whirlpool to address. Disappointing to say the least and I can't imagine spending money with this brand for any higher end appliance purchase in the future. Buyer beware!!!

Nice microwave

Door slammer 3/21/2018

I enjoy the new microwave so much. It's big, but the bell at the end is such a lovely sound. My only concern is that the controls are all on the door. I hope they do not malfunction with repeated door opening and closing. My family tends to shut it hard.

Open/Close door failure

afc523 3/15/2018

Whirlpool Microwave Model #: WMH73521CS started giving me hard time with open/close door failure. It won't start working although the door was closed. after searching online I noticed that this is a common problem for whirlpool microwaves. you will get a similar problem after a year (when the warranty expires). Mine started doing this after 18 months or so. I called the company and they offered me a service call (diagnostic) for $119 plus tax. I would not recommend whirlpool microwaves at all.
