This microwave worked great until the other day it started saying the door was open when it wasn't. Because it thinks the door is open you are not able to use it. We bought this house brand new and the builder installed all Whirlpool appliances. Very disappointed that the microwave has failed already.

Microwave was 2 yrs old when it started malfunctioning. We would close the door and the light inside would stay on and it would not recognize that the microwave was closed. We were still under a home warranty; so we only had to pay a portion of the cost to have a technician out to fix it. Less than 4 months after having it fixed, the same issue popped up again. Very frustrating since microwaves should last years and years vs 2 years.

I got this around 4 years ago. The clip broke behind the control panel, making the panel loose. I got a quote to repair this and the door and it would cost 550 dollars. I will be throwing this in the trash and will buy a different brand in the future.

Was very happy with the product until it started making weird sound when pushing a button to begin heating process. The sound would not happen every time but finally in the last attempt to use it, a weird sound occurred and then the oven omitted an electrical burn odor. Since we were afraid it may cause a fire we unplugged it from the wall and have not used it since.

We bought this microwave and shortly after the warranty expired it stopped working when it would no longer recognize the door was closed. Chalking it up to bad luck, we bought the same model again because it's difficult to find other models that fit our over-the-range space. After buying a second brand new microwave, we had the same exact issue shortly after the warranty expired. Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend it.

This Whirlpool microwave was brand new when we bought in 2014. Last night I went to make tea & my microwave just made a LOUD TICKING SOUND & SHUT OFF after 3 seconds! I followed all of the troubleshooting recommendations with no success. This microwave is completely USELESS AFTER 5 YEARS!!! I will never buy Whirlpool again!

Two years old. I bought my house and all new appliances were in it. Love the look and have been pleased with it, I don't use the microwave very often, only to reheat my coffee. I don't even reheat my food in it. I have been noticing the door light not coming on when I open it, I believe the latches on the inside for some reason are not working properly. Sometimes I get the light to come on and then the microwave will work, open the door, there may be time left on the cooking clock, and its still running, while the door is open..... oops!!!!! So I shut it and push cancel quickly. So... I go online to trouble shoot, whirlpool.com. My microwave is not found!!! no information on it can be found. I have always loved Whirlpool. So hearbreaking to write this email. So.... in my frustration of my crazy microwave.. I unplug it and take it apart and fix the sticking latches myself.
I can see the plastic latches, with a simple wire spring, is not opening and closing properly. This would have cost me hundreds for a repairmen to fix.
Over all pleased with Whirlpool, just not this one. Heartbreak.
But it's mine and I fixed it!! I'll keep it!

I purchased this over the range microwave and it worked for a short time but now it is at the point that if it does run it is extremely loud and does not heat anything up. The light does not work either. The only thing that works on this microwave is the fan. Well I'm glad one thing works on it. I would definitely not recommend this product for anything other than an ornament over my stove. Thankfully my neighbor gave me a microwave to use that isn't Whirlpool. So much for extra counter space!!

I have had this microwave since January 2013 (6 years). It was installed as part of a kitchen remodel by professional builders with new electrical wiring and all. It has always occasionally randomly tripped the circuit breaker, but resetting the breaker seemed to fix it and it wouldn't happen again for many months. A couple years ago I had an electrician check to make sure nothing was wrong with the wiring in the wall, and it seemed OK. Other than that problem, it mostly seemed to work well.
Then yesterday I went to microwave something for 15 seconds, and upon pressing the number 1 the microwave spontaneously turned on to a low power and wouldn't turn off. The cancel button didn't do anything. I had not even pressed the start button. I had to unplug it to get it to turn off, and if I plugged it back in it would just turn on again without any prompting. I called a local Whirlpool service tech and he said it would be at least $400 probably to fix it and there was no guarantee it would not have some other problem soon, and I'd be better off to just buy a new microwave.
I personally don't think 6 years is very long before sending something full of plastic and metal to "electronics recycling" or the dump. It's very wasteful and I'd rather pay a bit more for a unit that would last quite a bit longer. I am reluctant to replace it with another Whirlpool as I am disappointed in its longevity. And from what I read from some other reviewers, I was probably fairly lucky it even lasted this long.

It was great, but after 5 years it stopped working. The light comes on, it rotates, sounds ambitious and appears to be doing its job, but it's not. We are trying to get someone out to fix it but everyone says it's not worth it. Very disappointed and surprised it didn't last. Our range is not working well either. One burner takes a lot longer to heat then the others. Our whirlpool refrigerator is also not holding up. The seal around the door is dry, cracked and it collects moisture. We bought all 3 appliances at the same time. I would not recommend Whirlpool appliances if you want them to last for more than 5 years. very disappointed.

We bought this unit at Lowe's and honestly, it hasn't worked 100% since it was installed.
List of issues:
Intermittently heats food
Stays on at times when door is opened
Light underneath flickers while running
Doesn't "sense" the food we attempt to heat
All in all; disappointed in this Whirlpool product.

This is an attractive range that has worked well for us going on 3 years now. My main problem is with the light on the underside. this lights does not last more than about 3-4 months and is fairly specialized. There is only one store that I can purchase this from and it is only available in an incandescent variety. Additionally there is no record on the Whirlpool site regarding tis model for literature support. A search of W10572899 yields no results so it is a wild goose chase trying to find the replacement bulb.

This family member lasted less than 18 months before saying good bye to its cousins (fridge, dishwasher, stove) in the kitchen. First to depart and afraid others will soon follow the same destiny.
It happily generates heat through polarization of hydrogen & oxygen atoms and brightly shines at the range beneath.
It lost its luster after 6 months and darkness descent upon stove. Finally it no longer sending penetrating waves but sending buzzing noise instead.
No heat only after 18 months!!!
Bye Bye Whirlpool Microwave, and hope you don't drag your cousin with you.

Purchased a Whirlpool Refrigerator, Range and Microwave thinking they were the best. Refrigerator stopped making ice and was told I would have to get a new door to fix that?? Now the microwave. The under lighting buld burned out. Wanted to replace it with an LED light for energy efficiency. But now its on all the time and has three light levels with the LED installed. The off setting has the lowest level but is not "off". Why the manufacturer designed it to have constant power supplied is beyond me. For standard incandescent bulds it likely wasnt enough to make it glow but there is enough to power the LEDs.

This microwave is good for over the range.
This unit has strong fan to ventilate.
Also, the light is pretty decent and right fixture to make bright for the cooking area.
Easy to use and strong for warm cold pizza and cook some microwavable food.

I am the first owner of a new house. The builder used Whirlpool appliances, including this microwave. I didn't move in until after the warrently period had passed, so I had the door repaired twice (see the other one-star review here about a door latch problem), but it is just a lemon and I have no recourse, according to the person I spoke to at Whirlpool. I unplugged the darn thing a couple of months ago so the light wouldn't keep burning; tomorrow I will go find another microwave, pay full price, and get it installed. You really want to stay away from this model; all of us in my development have them and most of us have had/are having problems with the door.

This unit is in our kitchen for many years. It is powerful and works well. However: Whenever I cook on the stove below, an automatic fan goes on and is so noisy it is hard to talk without shouting. This makes cooking incredibly unpleasant as it is like having some noisy motor running right near my face. I cook every night and this is my only issue with this microwave. Any way of turning the auto NOISY fan off would be greatly appreciated for the sake of my sanity.Thank you

I bought this in 2012 when I remodeled my small kitchen, as a way to save countertop space. It is vented through the roof, and it has every feature I wanted. I have used it daily, repeatedly, for six years and it works just as well, and looks just as good, as the day it was installed.

Built a new house and bought all new Whirlpool appliances....Double oven, Range, Dishwasher, Washer and Dryer and unfortunately this microwave. After a $100 service call, was informed parts and labor to repair was $500, for a $280 microwave. No Thanks! Will probably buy another brand with a better warranty. Whirlpool should have a 5 year warranty on a catastrophic failure like this one.

New over the range MW came with newly remodel home we purchased in 2015, looked & worked great for the times that we used a microwave. 4-5x/week over 3 years, then it just stopped working, checked the breaker & power supply, tried swapped out the fuses...still dead. Not going to waste time to get repaired.. parts & labor would be more than to replace new. Considering replacing both range & MW for new brand. Very disappointed in the product's longevity!

Replaced the fuse and the display lit up again but when tried to operate it died again. At this point I would likely spend as much as it costs to buy a new one on diagnostics and repair.

Microwave not working correctly. No interior light and just gives a "door" error message. The light had been flicking in past few weeks.
It works on and off - I suppose it's about to completely fail. Bought November 2015 and was in our renovated house for just under 2 years before it has been used. Elderly parent uses it and seems it is only giving us 7 months of use ! Disappointed !

This unit was installed in my NEW condo when I purchased it in November of 2015. About 6 months ago, the microwave door switch started to operate intermittently. Sometimes, I would get the "door1" error message, sometimes the interior light would not operate, sometimes the unit would not operate. Last week, the door switch shorted and blew a circuit breaker. Now, The unit is inoperable. Other residents in my development have problems with the doors on their units. And, it seems that other customers who provided reviews on this site have the same problem, representative of poor engineering, poor quality, poor workmanship. I also have a Whirlpool stove, refrigerator, dishwasher clothes washer and clothes dryer in my unit. If (as) they fail I will swap them with wth products from more reliable manufacturers.
I wish that I could have rated this product ZERO stars. I am not a fan of "throw away" appliances, especially those that fail after two years of light use.

Within first year service repair had to be called. Within the next six months this unit has become VERY unreliable. Foods and liquids heat unevenly. At times they are undercooked and take 3 times as long to heat correctly. At times heating up liquids are either too cool or too hot ...using the same exact time for heating. Mostly they are too cool. Rarely does anything heat up correctly. On a couple of times the time changed on it's own. It went from cooking for 1 minute jumped to 10 minutes all by itself. It happened to both myself and my husband. As I stated this is a very frustrating and unreliable product. I am very disappointed in Whirlpool!

I purchased this microwave less than 2 years ago and had it installed. After about 10 months, the light started flickering and the microwave would occasionally not work. The service tech came and looked at it when it was under warranty. He said he tightened some screws but he didn't replace any parts. The same thing started happening again when the microwave was about 21 months old. Then I started getting the door error occasionally. Now the light doesn't come on and the microwave won't run at all because of the door error, and there is a lot of up and down movement of the door on the hinges. This is a single person household, so it's not exactly like this microwave has been overused. I called for service and it will cost me $99.99 just for the diagnosis, then parts and labor to fix it.
This a very poor quality product. Don't waste your money!

We bought a home 7/2016 and this microwave was installed as part of an appliance package in our brand new home. The tag in the oven states this was produced 4/2016. Around the 11 month mark we began experiencing sporadic issues with it which have progressed in frequency. The microwave is unreliable and has sporadic periods of inoperability which seem to be related to the door or door hinges. intermittent messages appear which say check door lock and interior oven light not working. well the door is closed and the oven won't work. We use it lightly as it is just the 2 of us. This is highly unsatisfactory quality for a product that is only 17 months old. Our 12 month warranty has expired and I am not willing to pay for a service call and new parts for an inferior quality product. I would not recommend this product to anyone. I plan to purchase a more reliable brand.

I bought this microwave 18 months ago, and it has stopped working. On the display, it says "door", as if the door is ajar (it's not). I called customer service and they told me to try unplugging it and plugging it back in. This "fix" works sporadically, but I'm going to have to get another one. Since it's over a year old, I'm just stuck. I wish I had investigated this more before I had purchased it, because it seems like this "door" problem is very common and the thing shorts out or something.

Front Window Glass Shattered On Its Own!

One night, I heard a loud bang coming from the kitchen and I thought something had fallen from the counter. I immediately went over to the kitchen and shockingly, I found the front window glass shattering on its very own! I did not even use the microwave that day nor did I even use the microwave in the past 3 or 4 days when the incident occurred. Small pieces of glass had fallen on top of my stove, counter, and floor. During the clean up process, I had even stepped on some of these small pieces of glass. I then called Whirlpool about the incident. They told me that since the product was outside of the 1 year warranty, that they would not take care of anything at all (even though it was a product defect and not my fault). After multiple complaints, they finally agreed to take care of the part and labor (approximately $200) while I would still be responsible for the service fee ($115). This whole process was not only very dangerous (fortunately, I was not in the kitchen at the time), but also very frustrating. Not only am I out $115 and had to clean up small pieces of glass (I got hurt too), but I spent many hours and time away from work on the phone and for the repair of the microwave.

Less then a year and the light will get a short in it and this will cause the microwave not to work! Has some kind of door ajar sensor issue! Do a review on this microwave and you will see many complaints on this! It cost more to fix it then the microwave is worth. Mine came with the house I bought and I will not be using a whirlpool product to replace it. Have been on the phone over 45 min. now waiting on customer service to help me through whirlpool. I bet they are going to tell me there is nothing they can do.

This product was less than 2 years old when the capacitor and diode failed. I've had 50 dollar dorm microwaves that lasted longer than this one did. The repair was more expensive than the product and couldn't find someone to do it within 10 days. A lot of metal into the landfill- a shame.

This microwave giving trouble from Day 1. Turn Table motor burned twice and part cost is $75. Unbelievable. Wrote an email to Whirlpool_Reviews and copy to their executives. Frustrating.
